Iron Infusions
Iron infusion therapy is a safe and effective way to rapidly replenish low iron levels in individuals diagnosed with iron deficiency or iron-deficiency anaemia. If you experience fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, or low energy due to low iron, an iron infusion may help restore your well-being quickly and efficiently. This is helpful for individuals who:
-
Have low iron levels confirmed by blood tests.
-
Experience fatigue, weakness, or dizziness due to iron deficiency.
-
Have difficulty absorbing iron from oral supplements.
-
Require a rapid increase in iron for medical reasons, such as pregnancy, chronic illness, or after surgery.

What are the Benefits & Risks?
Iron infusions deliver iron directly into the bloodstream via intravenous (IV) therapy, typically in a comfortable clinical setting and under the supervision of qualified healthcare professionals, including midwives and nurses.
Potential benefits may include:
-
Fast and effective replenishment: Can restore iron levels more efficiently than oral supplements in some cases.
-
Improved energy: May help reduce fatigue, weakness, and difficulties with concentration in individuals with iron deficiency.
-
Better absorption: Suitable for people who are unable to absorb or tolerate oral iron.
-
Support for underlying conditions: May assist in managing anaemia related to pregnancy, heavy menstrual bleeding, gut disorders, or recovery after certain surgeries.
-
Fewer gastrointestinal side effects: Generally associated with a lower risk of stomach upset compared to oral iron.
Important considerations:
-
Iron infusions are not suitable for everyone and require medical assessment, diagnosis, and referral.
-
Potential side effects can include allergic reactions, headaches, dizziness, skin staining at the injection site, or flu-like symptoms.
Individual results may vary. This information is intended as general guidance only and does not replace medical advice.
