If you and your partner are preparing for Lymphocyte Membrane Immunotherapy (LMIT), it’s natural to feel a mix of excitement and curiosity about what lies ahead. At The Infusion Centre Gold Coast, we offer personalised fertility support therapies such as LMIT, which may assist in supporting immune function as part of a broader fertility care plan. Here’s a clear, step-by-step guide to help you know what to expect during your first LMIT session.
Step 1: Your Initial LMIT Consultation
Before you begin treatment, you’ll have a required counselling session with your IVF and Fertility Specialist. This session is essential to:
Understand the science and process behind LMIT
Review your screening bloods
Receive clear guidance on the immunosuppression protocol (if applicable)
Determine your individual treatment path
This ensures you're fully informed, prepared, and have the best possible start on your fertility journey.
Step 2: Screening and Blood Tests
Both you and your partner will need to complete required screenings:
HIV
Hepatitis B and C
Syphilis
These results must be current within 12 months. You can organise this through your GP or IVF specialist It’s a vital part of ensuring your treatment is both safe and effective.
Step 3: Booking Your LMIT Appointments
Using our secure online portal, you’ll book two appointments:
1. Male Blood Collection Day (Day 1)
2. Female LMIT Injection Appointment (Day 3–4)
The male partner’s blood is collected first and sent to a specialist lab in Melbourne. It’s processed into a serum containing key immune cells, which will be shipped back to The Infusion Centre for administration.
Step 4: Male Blood Collection
Here’s what to expect:
You’ll need to have eaten and be hydrated before your appointment
A nurse will collect 8 vials of blood
The sample will be shipped immediately for processing
This step is critical to the creation of your personalised LMIT serum.
Step 5: Female LMIT Injection at The Infusion Centre Gold Coast
3–4 days later, you’ll attend your LMIT appointment at our Gold Coast clinic.
Here’s how it works:
Please apply the numbing EMLA patch at least 3 hours before your appointment (we'll provide one to your partner during the blood collection)
Our nurse will administer a series of small, intradermal injections (just beneath the skin)
The treatment typically takes 10–15 minutes
Aftercare Tips:
Avoid pressure or heavy lifting with the treated arm for 24–48 hours
Expect minor redness, bruising, or itching (this is normal)
Keep the area dry and avoid submerging it in water for 24 hours
Step 6: What Happens Next?
You’ll receive a second injection 4 weeks later. This activating dose (2 treatments total) is essential for your immune system to be optimally primed for pregnancy.
After your second treatment, you can begin trying to conceive — either via IVF or naturally.
Step 7: Ongoing LMIT Support
Depending on your progress, LMIT boosters may be recommended:
- Every 4–5 months while trying to conceive
- 3x pregnancy boosters during the first trimester if pregnancy is achieved
These are designed to offer continued immune support and give your body the best chance of success.
